Trailer – Who Will Write Our History
Who Will Write Our History is executive produced by Nancy Spielberg and based on the book by Samuel Kassow. Led by historian Emanuel Ringelblum and known by the code name Oyneg Shabes, a clandestine group of journalists, scholars, and community leaders in the Warsaw Ghetto vowed to defeat Nazi lies and propaganda not with guns or fists but with pen and paper. Now, for the first time, their story is told in this documentary featuring the voices of three-time Academy Award Nominee Joan Allen and Academy Award winner Adrien Brody.

Who Will Write Our History mixes the writings of the Oyneg Shabes archive with interviews, rarely seen footage and stunning dramatizations to transport us inside the Ghetto and the lives of these courageous resistance fighters. They defied their murderous enemy with the ultimate weapon – the truth – and risked everything so that their archive would survive the war, even if they did not. They buried 60,000 pages of documentation in the ground in hopes that the archive would survive to ‘scream the truth to the world.’“Which side of the story becomes the official narrative?” asks Director Roberta Grossman. “What is real and what is fake? These are top-of-mind questions in 2019. The moment I found out about this secret band of journalists, scholars and historians, I knew I had to make a film about them. Their story, captured in this film, is, in my opinion, the most important unknown story of the Holocaust,” added Grossman.

Roberta Grossman is an award-winning filmmaker with a passion for history and social justice. She has written, directed and produced over 40 hours of film and television. Her documentary Seeing Allred on attorney Gloria Allred can currently be seen on Netflix.

“The Marjorie Luke Theatre, know as ‘The People’s Theatre,’ is a perfect venue to present this screening, as it represents the power of people finding their voice and speaking the truth, something that happens regularly onstage at The Luke,” said Board President Rod Lathim. “This potent, timely film is important for all audiences to see, as much of history seems to be repeating itself. I encourage people to join us for an experience they will long remember.”
