Mariachi Mujer 2000, composed of 11 musicians hand picked from three states and led by founder Marisa Ordoño and music director Laura Sobrino, comes to Santa Barbara Jan. 7-9.
Mariachi Mujer 2000 was one of five bands representing the U.S. at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and played at the Santa Barbara Bowl in 2010’s Mariachi Festival. The group, composed of teachers, scholars and researchers, is dedicated to education and will also coach local mariachi musicians and visit schools during their stay
Presented by ¡Viva el Arte de Santa Bárbara!, the free concert will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7 at Isla Vista School, 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8 at the Theater Royal in Guadalupe and 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 9 at the Marjorie Luke Theatre in Santa Barbara.
Doors open 30 minutes before the start of the show.
