OXNARD — After extensive planning, design, construction work, and support from the community, the Oxnard School District proudly announces the grand opening of the new Elm Street School!

On Saturday, March 9, 2019 from 10 a.m. – noon, the District will hold a grand opening ceremony celebrating the completion of the new Elm Street School located at 450 East Elm Street, Oxnard, CA 93033.  Members of the community are encouraged to attend the ceremony to celebrate this milestone made possible through local support.

The new Elm Street School replaces the original aging buildings with new permanent classrooms providing an entirely new, state of the art campus to serve Kindergarten through 5thgrades. Up to 600 students are in spaces designed to maximize 21stcentury teaching and learning approaches. The project includes a two-story classroom wing, kindergarten classrooms, and multipurpose, library, and administration facilities.

The school is designed to support 360-degree learning environments with floor-to-ceiling whiteboards allowing any surface to be written upon to help spark creativity and critical thinking. Multiple high-definition monitors also allows for educational content to be wirelessly broadcasted and shared instantly from hand-held computing devices.

Modern support facilities include a multipurpose building with a commercial kitchen, serving/presentation space designed to accommodate presentations and performances as well as the serving of meals and sporting events. The administration building includes a library/media center with interactive break-out spaces, as well as maker’s rooms for additional learning opportunities, a dedicated parent multi-use room, lobby and offices / workrooms.

Demolition of the original school is underway to make way for the site’s future play fields which are anticipated to be completed by June 2019.

Financing for the new school is made possible through the District’s Master Construct and Implementation Program that includes local voter support

“Our ability to replace this aging school with completely new facilities supports our efforts to provide 21stcentury educational space to Elm students and staff,” said Superintendent Dr. Cesar Morales. “On behalf of our students, teachers, and staff, I would like to thank the Oxnard community for continuing to support our local schools.”

Elm Elementary is the third school in the Oxnard School District to undergo reconstruction joining Harrington School that opened in 2016 and Lemonwood School that completed construction of its new two-story classroom building and gym/multipurpose room in 2018. Lemonwood School will open its new kindergarten and administration buildings later this year.

The Oxnard School District currently educates approximately 16,133 students in transitional kindergarten through eighth grades at its 21 schools. For more information, visit www.oxnardsd.org.
