March 28 — Central City Swing Band to perform annual Spring Concert

ORCUTT —  The Central City Swing Band will perform their annual Spring Concert on Tuesday evening, March 28th, 2017 at 7:30PM. The concert will feature music arranged in a traditional or vintage swing style as well as arrangements in a modern jazz style. This concert will feature music composed and/or arranged by the musical legend Stan Kenton. The actual playlist is not finalized until the evening of the concert. The concert is performed in a church with comfortable seating, but no room for dancing. There is also very nice parking.

The group, led by Mr. Bob Swayze, has been performing on the Central Coast for many, many years. The band features 20 musicians in a standard “big band” configuration: 5 saxophones, 5 trombones, 5 trumpets and piano, guitar, bass and drums. The program will also feature vocals by Mitch Latting, lead trumpet and flugelhorn player and Kathryn Loomis, our new female vocalist, including a duet by these two artists.

The band has had several personnel changes since the last performance. Charlie Kim and Stephanie Douglass have joined the trumpet section. Tim Towne is the new drummer and Kathryn Loomis is the new female vocalist with the band.

There is no advanced sale of tickets, and there is no admission charge for this event. There is a “donation basket” in the lobby and any donations are split equally with the Church, with the balance going into the band’s music acquisition fund.

The concert will take place at 7:30PM on Tuesday, March 28th, 2017 at the Unity Chapel of Light Church, 1165 Stubblefield Road, Orcutt, CA.
