March 12 — CEC Climate Resilience Roundtable: Community Solutions to Protect Against Climate Change – Webinar (In English and Spanish)

SANTA BARBARA — Join the Community Environmental Council Friday, March 12, 2021 for the final roundtable in CEC’s series to address climate resilience in Santa Barbara County. This virtual event via Zoom will be presented in English with Spanish interpretation. The webinar will be from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. and the Roundtable Discussion (limited space) will be from 1:00 p.m. -2:30 p.m.

This free webinar from will highlight the themes, values, and bold ideas generated from the year-long Climate Resilience Roundtable series – solutions that can safeguard us from the inevitable impacts of climate change and move us toward a community resilience vision. We’ll discuss:

– Values and guiding principles needed for equitable climate resilience.
– Top ideas and initiatives identified in the roundtable series that could be leveraged and worked on collaboratively.
– How to align local climate resilience efforts with planning, priorities, and funding opportunities at the regional, state, and federal level.

Following the webinar, there will be a Roundtable Discussion from designed for planners, practitioners, and doers interested in coalescing around key projects and themes elevated in the roundtable series. We will explore opportunities for collaboration and partnership alignment around top project ideas and ways to move toward something implementable and fundable.

Event is free, but space is limited to ensure active engagement in the breakout sessions. Registration is required and confirmed on a first-come basis.

Speakers:
Nuin-Tara Key – Deputy Director for Climate Resilience, Governor’s Office of Planning and Research
Juliette Finzi Hart – Program Manager for the Integrated Climate Adaptation and Resilience Program, Governor’s Office of Planning and Research

Nuin-Tara Key is Deputy Director for Climate Resilience at OPR and Chair of the Technical Advisory Council for the Integrated Climate Adaptation and Resiliency Program. Prior to joining OPR, Nuin-Tara co-founded an international initiative on community-based climate action and has worked in the public, private, and non-profit sectors on sustainable urban and regional planning and policy, with a focus on social equity and climate change. She has a Master of Urban and Regional Planning from Portland State University and a BA from Lewis and Clark College.

Juliette Finzi Hart is the Program Manager for the Integrated Climate Adaptation and Resilience Program. Prior to joining OPR, Juliette was an Oceanographer and Director of Outreach at the USGS Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center. Earlier in her career, Juliette was a Research Assistant Professor in the Marine Environmental Biology program at the University of Southern California, where she also served as the Marine and Climate Science Specialist at USC Sea Grant. Juliette has a Ph.D. in Ocean Sciences from USC and a BA from Columbia University.
