The League of United Latin American Citizens — District 17 — is urging the public to attend the next Rio School District board meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 10 to show support for three trustees who may face a possible recall effort, the organization reported this week in a media release.
“The will of the voters was expressed with the election of a new board of trustees two years ago,” LULAC reported. “Now losers want to take over the board again…”
The trustees being targeted are Eleanor Torres, Ramon Rodriguez and Henrietta Macias. They were elected 2010. The new board members voted to dismiss former Rio Superintendent Sherriane Cotterel, who was awarded a new contract by the previos board after the 2010 election.
Current trustees Tim Blaylock and Mike Barber voted in favor of keeping Cotterel. She has since sued the district in federal court, according to a report in the Ventura County Star.
The board meeting will be held at the Rio School District office, 2500 Vineyard Ave., Oxnard.
