NORTHRIDGE — Two local engineers from Ventura County have made a presentation at California State University, Northridge for career guidance to students. It was arranged by the student chapter of The American Society of Civil Engineers at the University. Engineering students of various disciplines, and others from management classes were present to hear the presentations provided by two engineers from Hasan Consultants of Ventura. Hasan consultants is a civil, environmental and Transportation engineering firm. The engineers are Richard Herrera and Mohammed Hasan.
According to the professional liaison Ernie Pedroza, the chapter has 150 members, and meets biweekly at the campus. Both the engineers discussed career paths and what it takes to be a registered professional in California. It was emphasized that all civil engineers earn professional engineer’s license from the state of California. It is done in two parts, first, engineer in training exam and then the final exam, both of which are one-day exams each. After getting the registration as a civil engineer, some proceed to get further registrations in specific fields e.g. structural, geotechnical or traffic engineering.
