Smith School of Business and Economics will hold its final Spring 2014 Speakers Series program with a presentation by Joe Schroeder, president/CEO of Ventura County Credit Union, from noon to 2 p.m. Friday, May 2 in Malibu Hall 100. A graduate of the CSU (B.A. in Communications and MBA from Cal Poly Pomona), Schroeder leads the largest credit union headquartered in Ventura County – with six offices, 60,000 members and more than $600 million in assets. > The Economic Development Collaborative — Ventura County, the California Small Business Development Center and the U.S. Small Business Administration will be present three free workshops in May at the EDC-VC, 1601 Carmen Drive, Suite 215, Camarillo.

The “Starting a Small Business” workshop, presented by Mary Anne Rooney, SBDC adviser, will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday, May 5.

A “Consultant Professional Development” workshop, presented by Joe Huggins, SBDC adviser, will be held from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Friday, May 16.

An “Entrepreneurial Academy” workshop, presented by Huggins, will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, May 16.

The program will focus on “The Sales Process — How to prepare for sales with the proper attitude and skills, generating leads, handling objections and closing the sale.”

Pre-approval is required for participation in the workshops.

All workshops include networking opportunities with other consultants and business owners.

> The 33rd annual Santa Barbara Economic Summit will be presented from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 8 at the Granada Theater, 1214 State St., Santa Barbara. Presented by the UCSB Economic Forecast Project, the event begins with a breakfast reception at 7:30 a.m. followed by the opening panel presentation on “The Future of Work.” The summit is open to the public.
