Latino Thought Makers Series to present ‘Hollywood and Politics’ at Oxnard College on Oct. 12

2016-2017 Season Kicks Off October 12 with Hollywood & Politics featuring Award-winning Actor Emilio Rivera, Columnist Ruben Navarrette Jr. & Radio HostWendy Carrillo

oct-12 OXNARD —  In collaboration with the Ventura County Community College District and Oxnard College, Rick Najera’s Latino Thought Makers Live Series will return to the Oxnard College Performing Arts Centeron Wednesday, October 12 at 7:00pm, kicking off its fourth season. Award-winning writer-director-producer and comedian, Rick Najera will host the series.

“The Latino Thought Makers Series is a fantastic event that we’re proud to sponsor again this year. We look forward to recognizing and celebrating Latino contributions to our community through this successful forum of learning and engagement,” said president of Oxnard College, Cynthia E. Azari.

The season commencement, Latino Thought Makers: Hollywood & Politics, will feature a lively debate and discussion among special guests, including television and film star Emilio Rivera (Sons of Anarchy, CSI: NY, Law & Order, Gang Related, High Crimes, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind), nationally syndicated columnist Ruben Navarrette Jr. (The Washington Post, USA Today, MOSH.US), and political radio host Wendy Carrillo (KPWR’s Knowledge is Power, Reported.ly, HuffPost Live, CNN Latino). Rick Najera(CBS, Hulu’s East Los High, Mad TV, In Living Color) will host the show.

“Latino Thought Makers is an important series designed to educate, entertain and engage students and the community at large,” said VCCCD Board Chair Larry Kennedy.  “The program is geared toward showcasing diversity, talent and topical issues affecting the nation.” The successful series has showcased the careers of prominent Latinos in Hollywood including actors Edward James Olmos, Danny Trejo, Josefina Lopez, Luis Guzman, Esai Morales, the family of Cesar Chavez, creator (Carlos Portugal) and cast of Hulu’s East Los High and many more.

Latino Thought Makers will kick off its 2016-2017 series at Oxnard College Performing Arts Center on Wednesday, October 12 at 7:00pm at 4000 S. Rose Ave, Oxnard, CA 93033. Doors open at 6:30pm. The event is open to the public. Entrance and parking are FREE. A $5 donation is suggested to benefit the Oxnard College Foundation supporting student scholarships in the arts.
