The National Latino Peace Officers Association — Ventura County Chapter, will present its 4th annual “Comedy Show Fundraiser” beginning with a reception at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19 at the Tower Club, 300 E. Esplanade Drive, Oxnard.
Featuring comedians Cliff Yates and Andy Fernandez, with emcee Pablo Ortiz, the show begins at 7:30 p.m.
Yates has spent the past 30 years as a police officer, originally an upstate New York cop, most recently patrolling the streets of Los Angeles as a deputy sheriff, sergeant, the association reported. One of his L.A. patrol assignments found him working a foot beat at the Universal Citywalk, and as fate would have it, a chance encounter with a local television producer. Soon after, his double life as “cop by day – comic by night” was exposed on a local television news special. He performs across the country.
A native New Yorker, Fernandez’ fresh brand of humor is universal in appeal, the group reported. He has been seen on NBC’s Friday Night, Showtime’s Latino Laugh Festival, Comedy Central’s Stand Up, Show Time with Drew Cary, as well as performances in Iraq, for our troops. He has also starred in soap operas on ABC, CBS, and NBC. He is co-owner of the Ventura Harbor Comedy Club.
Tickets are $40 (portion tax deductible). The local chapter presents an annual scholarship program.
