Latino Issues Forum to hold voter rally on Oct. 27 in Oxnard

OXNARD — The Latino Issues Forum (LIF), a coalition of Ventura County community based organizations serving the Latino community has organized a second key event in an effort to maximize voter turnout for the Nov. 6 general election, the group reported Wednesday.

LIF is sponsoring a “su voto primero” (Your Vote First) rally at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27 at Plaza Park in Oxnard (5th St. and C St.). The event features elected officials from throughout Ventura County with messaging directed at area registered voters.

Only about a third of the 21 million Latinos who were eligible voted in 2010, LIF spokesperson Dave Rodriguez said.

“As a group of organizations that work on issues in the Latino community we strongly encourage a high turnout of Latino voters” he said.

Recognizing the importance of this year’s election to policy issues of concern to Latinos, LIF has recruited key opinion leaders to attend events in the county with the hope of encouraging voters to go to the polls in unprecedented numbers on Tuesday, Nov. 6.
