VENTURA — Due to the winter storms the tax filing deadline for Ventura County has been extended and now low- to moderate-income Ventura County residents can have their state and federal tax returns prepared and e-filed for free on June 5th when the United Way E-bus tour comes to Ventura County. Residents can put more money back in their pocket with the help of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program offered by United Way of Ventura County and the County of Ventura Human Services Agency.
On June 5, 2023, IRS certified volunteers will prepare and e-file state and federal tax returns for households with incomes under $60,000. Tax preparers assist tax filers to access the tax credits to which they are eligible. You may qualify for state and federal Earned Income Tax Credit. The E-bus will be at 2901 N. Ventura Road, Oxnard from 1:00 to 6:00 pm. To schedule an appointment for the E-bus call 211 or self-schedule by visiting myfreetaxes.org.
The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is a tax credit for low-to-moderate income working families and individuals. The EITC can help you reduce your tax liability and, in many cases put money in your pocket. You must file your taxes to receive the EITC, even if you did not earn enough money to be required to file.
If you have low income and work, you may qualify for CalEITC. This credit gives you a refund or reduces your taxes owed. If you meet CalEITC requirements and have a child younger than 6 years old all of the 2022 tax year, you may also qualify for the Young Child Tax Credit. Filing your state tax return is required to claim both credits. Self-employed workers, families, and those with ITINs earning up to $30,000 are eligible for the CalEITC.
Since 2007, United Way of Ventura County and the County of Ventura Human Services Agency have partnered to provide free tax preparation services to Ventura County.
