OXNARD — On Saturday, June 4, the Channel Islands Maritime Museum will be presenting its next short film showcase. The Locally Sourced showcase will bring viewers unique perspectives on aquaculture. The films include Dashi Journey, The Super Salmon, and Where There Is Trout. The screening will start at 4:00 pm at the Museum.
The film Super Salmon is an intimate and inspiring look into the impacts of the proposed Susitna-Watana dam on the Susitna River in south-central Alaska. The story outlines the threats posed by the Susitna Dam and the work of the Susitna River Coalition, which is aimed at protecting our free-flowing, healthy watershed so that future generations of salmon, wildlife, and humans can depend on it as we do today. In the film Dashi a world-renowned chef travels from his Tokyo kitchen to the northern and southernmost ends of Japan to discover the origins of Dashi, the original source of umami and the invisible foundation of Japanese cuisine. As he immerses himself in the lives of fishermen and food craftsmen, he is moved by the dignity, humor, and generosity of people who themselves are invisible to society. In Where There Is Trout Citlali Gomez is running a trout and bullfrog farm started by her mother. To Citlali, the farm, in rural Mexico, is more than a job, it’s a way for her and her family to battle the pressures of deforestation happening right in their backyard.
These unique films complement the exhibition 71% – Honoring Vital Waters which begins its run at CIMM on May 10. 71% examines water in all of its forms and features the incredible artwork of Shannon Celia and Mary Neville.
Admission for the showcase is $7.00 for members, $10 for adults, $7.00 for seniors and active military, and $5.00 for youth 11-17 years of age. Tickets are available on a first come first serve basis and may be ordered online at https://cimmvc.charityproud.org/EventRegistration/Index/8638
