June 21 – Channel Islands Maritime Museum presents “DAMN THE PETTICOATS! Female Mariners in the Days of Sail’

OXNARD – Channel Islands Maritime Museum presents “DAMN THE PETTICOATS! Female Mariners in the Days of Sail” with CIMM Docents and Historians Martina Melero and Jim Kosinski. Queens commanded fleets, female tars climbed the foremast, mistresses were in disguise, pirate queens took charge and whaling wives longed for home. Learn why these women chose to risk their lives in a man’s domain and cast their fates to the wind.

Speaker Series is a lecture series held every third Wednesday at the Channel Islands Maritime Museum. Refreshments are served at 6:30 pm and the lecture begins at 7:00 pm. Entry is free with membership, $7 for non-members, $5 for seniors.

The Channel Islands Maritime Museum is located in Oxnard’s Channel Islands Harbor at 3900 Bluefin Circle. CIMM is open Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 am – 4 pm; Sundays from 12 pm – 4 pm; Tuesdays and Wednesdays are open for reserved group tours and private member events. Explore galleries full of rare and beautiful maritime paintings dating back to the 1600’s, more than sixty world-class models of historic ships, rotating thematic fine arts exhibitions, and interactive exhibits that encourage visitors to expand their horizons about everything maritime.
