OXNARD — The Channel Islands Maritime Museum (CIMM) is pleased to announce that Captain Christine Healy of the ship Mystic Cruzar, will be its featured speaker for June.
Captain Healy will share the journey of the beautiful tall ship Mystic Cruzar as she made her way from Connecticut to her new home of Channel Islands Harbor via the Panama Canal in the fall and early winter of 2021-22.
The ship was built in Florida in 1967 and that year began offering one- to five-day sailing cruises out of Mystic, Connecticut. The schooner historically carried 3,000 to 4,000 passengers each year from May to October. In her new home, Mystic Cruzar has a new mission in which she is to be utilized in providing educational opportunities for youth and adults.
The ship is a reproduction of a late 19-century coastal cargo schooner with 3,000 square feet of sail and a diesel engine. It features Italian oak floors and fir wainscoting with mahogany accents along with six bathrooms with host showers. It was rebuilt in 1993. The Mystic Cruzar is Coast Guard certified for 50 passengers plus 10 crew.
The CIMM Speaker Series will be presented on June 15, 2022. Doors open at 6:30 pm with the program beginning at 7:00 pm. Ticket Prices are $7 for adults, $5.00 for seniors and active military, $3.00 for youths aged 6-17 years. Museum members receive free entrance to the event.
