OXNARD — In coordination with The Mexican Consulate in Oxnard, the Oxnard Performing Arts Center Corporation (OPAC) is pleased to announce its next visual arts exhibition, LUCHA LIBRE SIEMPRE, curated by Rafael Perea de la Cabada. This solo exhibition features work shot in the early 90’s, and continues to the present day, photographed throughout Southern California by photographer Bob DeBris. The show includes images of some of the greatest Mexican wrestling icons of the 1980’s and 90’s. The work also includes profiles of the new crop of luchadores both male and female in the Lucha Libre scene.
Canadian-born DeBris has called Ventura County home for 30 years. His photography documents funny, offbeat and different perspectives within subcultures as diverse as burlesque and gatherings of believers in aliens. Remarks DeBris, “Luchadores famous and not so are individuals who have dedicated their lives to this spectacular form of entertainment. Their motives are as varied as the moves, makeup and personas each one has adopted, giving life to the character they become in the ring. For some it’s the realization of a lifelong dream—for others a family tradition. A few luchadores see it as a foot in the door to untold wealth. It’s a celebration of Mexican cultural heritage. It’s entertainment—it’s male bravado—its broken legs and ruptured disks—a momentary spotlight of glory—adoring fans—it’s vaudeville—morality tales—it’s about violence—good guys and bad guys—-about crooked referees—about dignity and indignity.”
Hex Wrestling Promotion (HWP) will present two live matches at the exhibit’s opening reception. The first match will be between LAtigo Blaco and Harlekin VS. Técnicos Indio Azteca and Scarecrow. The second match will be between Sicario and Impacto Sagrado VS. Lobo X and Nightwing.

LUCHA LIBRE SIEMPRE: La Fotografía de Bob DeBris — una Celebración de la Lucha Libre Mexicana
OXNARD – – En coordinación con el Consulado de México en Oxnard, el Oxnard Performing Arts Center Corporation (OPAC) se complace en anunciar su próxima exposición de artes visuales, LUCHA LIBRE SIEMPRE, curada por Rafael Perea de la Cabada. Esta exposición individual presenta fotografías tomadas desde principios de los años 90 hasta la actualidad por el fotógrafo Bob DeBris en el sur de California. La muestra incluye imágenes de algunos de los más grandes íconos de la lucha libre mexicana de los años 80 y 90, así como perfiles de la nueva generación de luchadores y luchadoras en la escena de la Lucha Libre.
DeBris, nacido en Canadá, ha considerado al Condado de Ventura su hogar durante 30 años. Su fotografía documenta perspectivas divertidas, extravagantes y diferentes dentro de subculturas tan diversas como el burlesque y las reuniones de creyentes en extraterrestres. DeBris comenta: “Los luchadores, famosos y no tanto, son individuos que han dedicado sus vidas a esta espectacular forma de entretenimiento. Sus motivaciones son tan variadas como los movimientos, el maquillaje y las personalidades que cada uno ha adoptado, dando vida a los personajes que se convierten en el ring. Para algunos es la realización de un sueño de toda la vida, para otros una tradición familiar. Algunos luchadores lo ven como una puerta hacia una riqueza incalculable. Es una celebración del patrimonio cultural mexicano. Es entretenimiento, es valentía masculina, son piernas rotas y discos herniados, un momento de gloria bajo los reflectores, fanáticos adoradores, es vodevil, cuentos morales, se trata de violencia, buenos y malos, árbitros corruptos, dignidad e indignidad.”
Hex Wrestling Promotion (HWP) presentará dos luchas en vivo en la recepción de apertura de la exposición. La primera lucha será entre Látigo Blanco y Harlekin VS. Técnicos Indio Azteca y Scarecrow. La segunda lucha será entre Sicario e Impacto Sagrado VS. Lobo X y Nightwing.
