Nonprofit recognizes community champions for their remarkable efforts
VENTURA — United Way of Ventura County (UWVC) will host its 18th annual Spirit Awards Gala, where it will present awards for volunteerism, community impact and corporate citizenship to local community champions. The event will take place from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Zachari Dunes on Mandalay Beach, located at 2101 Mandalay Beach Road, Oxnard.
This year, Dr. Lisa L. Buono will be recognized with the Milton M. Teague Award for Outstanding Community Volunteerism. She is receiving this award for her efforts as a volunteer leader with a focus on education and building strong communities.
Dr. Therese S. Eyermann will be honored with the Douglas Shively Award for Outstanding Community Impact. She was selected for this award for her dedication and work in leading United Way’s GradNation Summit and dedication to creating education pathways to prepare students for high school and college.
The Roy Pinkerton Award for Top Corporate Citizenship will go to Procter & Gamble for its seventh time. Last year, Procter & Gamble local employees raised a record $221,000 in addition to $30,000 in corporate giving and sponsorship. In addition to giving, Procter & Gamble employees volunteered their time by packing more than 3,000 Stuff the Bus backpacks and mobilized team members to provide Welcome Home baskets for families recently housed through UWVC’s Landlord Engagement Program.
The County of Ventura will be honored with the President’s Award for their leadership and partnership with United Way’s Community Impact programs including Building Healthy Smiles, Women United, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, and United to End Homelessness VC supporting our most vulnerable neighbors in need.
“We are so excited to come together to celebrate these remarkable community champions,” said Mitchel Sloan, president and CEO of United Way of Ventura County. “Each of our honorees has made a life-changing impact here in Ventura County, and we thank them for their tremendous contributions to this community we are proud to call home.”
Entertainment at the Spirit Awards Gala will include guitarist Tony Ybarra and his ensemble.
