VENTURA — The Ventura Police Department will host a free, public community workshop on Tuesday, July 23, from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at the Ventura Police Headquarters, located at 1425 Dowell Drive.
In the last six months, Ventura PD has received nearly 200 calls for service related to increased e-bike activity in Ventura, with concerns ranging from speeding and traffic violations to accidents and near-misses.
“E-bike safety, reckless riding, and enforcement have become a significant concern for our community, and we want to address these issues head-on,” said Chief Darin Schindler. “This workshop is an opportunity for residents to learn more about the safe and legal use of electric bicycles and to engage with our officers on these important issues. We are committed to ensuring the safety of all road users and fostering a culture of responsible e-bike use in Ventura.”
The workshop will cover various electric devices and safety topics, including e-bike classifications, electric motorcycle regulations, state and local laws surrounding appropriate use, and information about what the Ventura Police Department is doing to educate residents and enforce laws on this topic.
The Ventura Police Department reminds residents that:
- E-bikes must have a class identification sticker permanently affixed to the device.
- Modifying an e-bike to increase speed, riding recklessly, and fleeing from an officer is illegal.
- Electric dirt bikes and motorcycles must be registered with the California Department of Motor Vehicles, insured, and the rider must have the proper driver’s license to operate them on City streets.
- Riders under 18 years old must always wear a properly fitted and secured helmet.
- All cyclists, including e-bike riders, must follow the rules of the road.
- Anyone riding illegally in the City of Ventura is subject to ticketing, fines, device impounding, or arrest.

La Polici?a de Ventura ofrecera? un taller educativo sobre bicicletas ele?ctricas
VENTURA – – El Departamento de Polici?a de Ventura ofrecera? un taller comunitario gratuito el mar- tes 23 de julio, de 6:00 a 7:30 p.m. en las oficinas principales de la Polici?a de Ventura, ubicadas en 1425 Dowell Drive.
El taller cubrira? varios dispositivos ele?ctricos y temas de seguridad, incluyendo las clasificaciones de bicicletas ele?ctricas, regulaciones de motocicletas ele?ctricas, leyes estatales y locales sobre su uso apro- piado, e informacio?n sobre lo que esta? haciendo el Departamento de Polici?a de Ventura para educar a los residentes y hacer cumplir las leyes sobre este tema.
“Sabemos que la seguridad de las bicicletas ele?ctricas, el manejo imprudente y el cumplimiento de las normas se han convertido en una preocupacio?n creciente para nuestra comunidad, y queremos abordar esto de frente”, dijo el Jefe de Polici?a Darin Schindler. “Este taller es una oportunidad para que los res- identes aprendan ma?s sobre el uso seguro y legal de las bicicletas ele?ctricas y para que dialoguen con nuestros oficiales sobre estos importantes temas. Estamos comprometidos a garantizar la seguridad de todos los usuarios de las vi?as pu?blicas y a fomentar una cultura de uso responsable de bicicletas ele?ctri- cas en Ventura”.
Desde el 1 de enero del 2024, el Departamento de Polici?a de Ventura ha recibido casi 200 llamadas de servicio relacionadas con la actividad de bicicletas ele?ctricas en la Ciudad de Ventura.
El Departamento de Polici?a de Ventura les recuerda a los residentes que:
- Las bicicletas ele?ctricas deben tener una calcomani?a de identificacio?n de clase permanentemente
adherida.
- Es ilegal modificar una bicicleta ele?ctrica para aumentar la velocidad, conducir imprudentemente y huir
de un oficial.
- Las dirt bikes y motocicletas ele?ctricas deben estar registradas en el Departamento de Vehi?culos Mo-
torizados de California, aseguradas, y el conductor debe tener la licencia de conducir adecuada para
operarlas en las calles de la ciudad.
- Los conductores menores de 18 an?os deben usar siempre un casco bien ajustado y asegurado.
- Todos los ciclistas, incluidos los conductores de bicicletas ele?ctricas, deben seguir las reglas de la
carretera.
- Cualquier persona que conduzca ilegalmente en la Ciudad de Ventura esta? sujeta a multas, confisca-
cio?n del dispositivo o arresto.
