SANTA PAULA — Embrace the new year with a creative spirit at the Santa Paula Art Museum! In the Museum’s “Women Create” class on January 9, 2019, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm, students will employ Scottish artist Frances MacDonald’s dreamy and elegant 1900 painting entitled “Spring” as their muse. Using watercolor paints and tracing paper, teaching artist Mary-Gail King will guide students as they delve into the elegant shapes and patterns of Art Nouveau, and reflect on beauty, grace, and creativity. “Women Create” is an ongoing series exclusively for women age 16 and over. The class features a new art project, muse, and discussion each month. All skill levels are welcome, and all supplies are provided. The cost of the class is $35.00 per person. Pre-registration is required, and online registration is preferred. You can register online at: https://www.santapaulaartmuseum.org/creativity. Having trouble registering for class online? Call the Museum at (805) 525-5554.

January class muse Frances MacDonald (1873-1921) and her sister, Margaret, established a shared studio in Glasgow, Scotland where they collaborated on graphics, textile designs, book illustrations and metalwork. Influenced by mysticism, symbolism, and Celtic imagery, their distinctive designs became synonymous with the “Glasgow Style” of the late 19th century.
