SANTA BARBARA — ProyectoJAROCHO and SONado Santa Barbara will present “IV Encuentro de Son Jarocho,” a festival of music from Veracruz, Mexico, from 4:30 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, April 13 at Casa de la Guerra, 9 E. De La Guerra St., Santa Barbara.
The free festival features Liche Oseguera directly from Veracruz, Son del Centro, El Cascabel, Cambalache and Chucumite. Free for all ages.
Fandango Comunitario starts at 11 p.m. and ends haste que no corran de ahi, organizers reported.
There will also be a son jarocho workshop from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 14 with Liche Oseguera from Veracruz, Vivencial del Fandango llanero (The Experience of the llanero style fandango), guitarra de son, jarana and zapateado, at 3715 Avalon Lane, Santa Barbara. The cost is $20 and includes the workshop and food, $12 for proyecto Jarocho students, free for children 10 and under. All the money collected on the workshop will go to support our son jarocho music festival for 2014, organizers reported.
The event is co-sponsored by the Trust for Historic Preservation and is funded in part by the Community Arts Grant Program using funds provided by the City of Santa Barbara in partnership with the Santa Barbara County Arts Commission.
