Roselle brings 20 years of experience in expanding lifesaving animal welfare programs

OJAI — At a time when animal welfare nonprofits are playing an increasingly critical role in Ventura County, the Humane Society of Ventura County (HSVC) is strengthening its future with the appointment of Daniel Roselle as its new executive director, effective Oct. 1, 2025.

A trusted community resource since 1932, HSVC provides compassionate care, adoptions, humane investigations and disaster response services for thousands of animals across the region each year. Roselle’s appointment marks an important milestone as the organization continues to expand access to care and build new programs that keep pets safe, healthy and with the people who love them.

Roselle brings more than 20 years of leadership experience spanning Fortune 500 companies and nonprofits, with a proven record of guiding organizations through transformation, strengthening community trust and advancing lifesaving programs. Most recently, he served as principal of Banner Cloud Communications, advising organizations on strategic communications and change management. His animal welfare leadership includes serving as director of communications and community relations for the Hawaiian Humane Society, where he reimagined the organization’s approach to serving pets and people across Hawaii. During his tenure, Roselle spearheaded outreach programs that delivered veterinary care to underserved communities, led advocacy efforts that resulted in significant updates to animal welfare laws, directed humane education initiatives and helped plan a second shelter location on O‘ahu.

“For me, the heart of animal welfare is saving lives and keeping pets with the people who love them,” Roselle said. “I’m grateful to continue that mission here with a team that is deeply committed to the community and tireless in advocating for animals.”

Having recently completed significant strategic planning with two consulting firms focused on long-term growth and community engagement, the HSVC Board of Directors expressed strong enthusiasm for Roselle’s leadership.

“Over the past year, our team has worked tirelessly behind the scenes to invest in strategic plans that will carry HSVC into the future,” said Ron Schmidt, Chair of the HSVC Board. “We are confident that Daniel is the right leader to support HSVC as it continues to expand its services and reach within the community. As part of the hiring process, we prioritized the feedback of our staff and volunteers, and Daniel is excited to work alongside them to shape an even brighter future for HSVC.”

Roselle will begin his tenure Oct. 1, 2025, working closely with HSVC’s board, staff, volunteers and supporters to advance the organization’s role as Ventura County’s trusted leader in animal welfare.
