Hispanic Heritage Month begins with shows on Sept. 15 in Oxnard, Ventura and Camarillo

The Latino Vision Group in Oxnard will hold an opening reception for the Chicano/a Art show “Latino Visions in Oxnard 2017” from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, at the former Social Security Administration building, 424 South B St., near Plaza Park, Oxnard.

Exhibits will be presented through Monday, Oct. 30 at multiple venues.

In celebration of the historic Getty Foundation’s “Pacific Standard Time 2017: Latino Visions LA/LA,” as well as the September 15-October 15, 2017 designation as Latino Heritage Month DNTN Gallery, The Acuna Art Gallery, ODMD, Abel Magana, Executive Director and the City of Oxnard bring together some of the great masters of Chicano/Latino Art of the United States along with emerging Chicano/Latino artists from the greater Oxnard Plains.

The curators for this historic Latino Visions Exhibitions will be Armando Vazquez and Dr. DeVries, owners of one of the most extensive and important Chicana(o) Arts Collection in the United States. Our partners DNTN Gallery, DOMA and the city of Oxnard will provide multiple venue locations, logistical assistance.

The Museum of Ventura County will begin its Chicano/a Art Show, “Ayer y Todavía,” with a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15.

The event is in conjunction with Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA Latin American & Latino Art in LA, the Museum of Ventura County.

Experience Chicano culture and history, as well as current struggles and social issues, as seen through the eyes of Chicano artists in Ayer y Todavía.

Enjoy live music provided by Los Fabulocos Band, and a chance to visit with the artists and the collectors who helped shape this unique Chicano exhibit.

Featured artists include Margaret Garcia, Frank Romero, Carlos Almaraz, Leo Limón, Salomon Huerta, Jack Vargas, Harry Gamboa, Diane Gamboa, Ignacio Gomez, and Patssi Valdez, Wayne Healy among others.

Some of the collectors who loaned exhibits to this show include the Jaime & Helen Casillas, Tomas Sanchez, and Henry and Doreen Villanueva.

CSUCI one of 70 plus destinations on Pacific Standard Time — LA/LA art celebration through Jan. 2018

CSU Channel Islands will open its exhibit “Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA (PST: LA/LA)” on Sept. 15 at the Napa Gallery and the John Spoor Broome Library Gallery.

The Chicana/Chicano movement of the 1960s and ‘70s, Mexican iconography and ancient Aztec cosmic female deities are all part of a CSU Channel Islands (CSUCI) art show designed to kick off the University’s participation in the Getty’s institutive Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA.

CSUCI’s Napa Hall Gallery exhibit will feature Los Angeles artists Vibiana Aparicio-Chamberlin, Oscar Castillo and Leo Limon, who were part of the Latino Museum of History, Art & Culture’s exhibition programming in downtown Los Angeles.

The Broome Library Gallery will feature the work of Cuban-born Paul Sierra, whose work integrates North American influences with Sierra’s Latin visual and cultural roots. It will also present an opportunity to view the Latino Museum’s exhibition history that is part of CSUCI’s unique collection archives.
