Public is Invited to Day of Free Health Screenings, Resources and Entertainment
OXNARD — Gold Coast Health Plan (GCHP) is holding a family-themed health fair in Oxnard on Saturday in anticipation of the thousands of children that are expected to enroll in Medi-Cal and become GCHP members starting in June.
For GCHP’s 5th Annual Community Resource Fair, the Plan is joining with nearly three dozen of its provider and community partners to provide free health screenings and resources at Plaza Park.
Part health seminar, part doctor’s visit, part fiesta, the resource fair will give attendees an opportunity to have their blood pressure, blood glucose, and body mass index checked. Entertainment will include Zumba for children and adults, face painting and raffles.
For those who are new to Medi-Cal or who are familiarizing themselves with Medi-Cal, information on eligibility and enrollment will be available. GCHP’s leaders will also be walking throughout Plaza Park introducing themselves, answering questions, troubleshooting and taking in feedback.
“This fair is a great opportunity for the community to meet the people who work behind the scenes at Gold Coast Health Plan to deliver health care,” said Dale Villani, GCHP’s chief executive officer. “We want to hear from you.”
The fair is free and open to public. It will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is the fourth year that a community resource fair is being held in Oxnard. Last year, about 500 people attended the fair at Plaza Park. More than 50 people who had screening results that were of concern to those performing the exams were referred to doctors for follow up visits.
