Ventura County’s Medi-Cal Plan supports organizations that are helping the community during the COVID-19 pandemic
CAMARILLO — Gold Coast Health Plan (GCHP) has provided $20,500 in sponsorships to seven community organizations that are helping county residents during the pandemic.
“We saw the immense need caused by the pandemic and we wanted to do our part to ensure the health and wellbeing of our community,” said Margaret Tatar, GCHP’s interim chief executive officer. “We are grateful to our community partners for working tirelessly to meet the needs of Ventura County residents and help them get through this crisis.”
Since April, GCHP has awarded sponsorships to:
  • American Heart Association: $2,500 to support the telemedicine efforts of community clinics by providing blood pressure monitors to patients who have an increased risk of heart disease and stroke, as well as developing severe complications from COVID-19.
  • CAREGIVERS: Volunteers Assisting the Elderly: $1,000 for the Shop & Drop program, which provides grocery shopping and pharmacy pick-ups for elderly county residents.
  • Feeding the Frontline: $5,000 to provide food to essential workers in the agricultural industry.
  • FoodShare: $5,000 for pop-up food pantries throughout the county.
  • LUCHA, in conjunction with Poder Popular de Santa Paula: $5,000 for the Comida para la Gente (Food for the People) food distribution program. GCHP’s sponsorship will directly benefit Santa Paula’s agricultural workers.
  • Secure Beginnings Free Diaper Bank: $1,000 to provide diapers and wipes to families in need in Meiners Oaks.
  • Students for Eco-Education and Agriculture (SEEAG): $1,000 for Farm Fresh Kids Wellness Bags, which were filled with educational materials, jump ropes, dental kits and fresh produce and distributed to the children of farm workers.
