CARPINTERIA — Girls Inc. of Carpinteria recently held a ceremony at its campus on Foothill Road to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Lynda Fairly Courtyard, marking the official start of construction.
More than 50 community members and supporters joined Girls Inc. staff, members and families at the groundbreaking event, including Carpinteria Unified School District Superintendent Diana Rigby, members of Grant Cox Enterprises which facilitated the courtyard design, and local philanthropist Lynda Fairly.
Earlier this year, Girls Inc. of Carpinteria announced the total renovation of its outdoor courtyard into an intentional mixed use community space, complete with dedicated outdoor classroom areas and an interactive natural playground, in an environmentally conscious and meditative landscape. Funding for the renovation was primarily from Fairly and the La Centra-Summerland Foundation.
Girls Inc. of Carpinteria Executive Director Jamie Collins, Fairly, and several members Girls Inc.’s programs officially broke ground on the courtyard at the event.
