Fun and Spooktacular Events Abound in Oxnard during the Fall Season

OXNARD — It’s the time of year for spicy fun, spirited events and family adventures. Oxnard celebrates the fall season with a variety of events taking place throughout October.

The month kicks off with the 24th Annual Multicultural Festival on Saturday, October 5 in Plaza Park, Downtown Oxnard.  The annual festival celebrates Oxnard’s cultural diversity and includes a number of highlights including musical entertainment, fun & educational activities, international booths, car displays and more.  The event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is free.

America’s most popular classic car, the Mustang will be on display during the Ponies by the Sea Car Show taking place at Marine Emporium Landing in Channel Islands Harbor on Sunday, October 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  The free event will feature mustangs from all eras and is hosted by the Tri-County Mustang Club.  Prizes will be awarded to participants in many categories.

Oxnard brews up some fun Halloween events for all ages in October.  Halloween Haunt in the Park provides kids with an opportunity to show off their costumes to compete for prizes.  The free event takes place on Saturday, October 26 at 4 p.m. in Plaza Park, Downtown Oxnard.  Other highlights include bounce houses, face painting, hands-on crafts, Halloween themed movie clips, music and more.

An array of fresh harvest from local farmers and bright pumpkins of all sizes take center stage at the Channel Islands Harbor Farmers’ Market Pumpkin Fun Day on Sunday, October 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.   The day’s events include art activities for the kids, trick or treating, children’s costume parade and prizes.  Free to the public.

Blending the Victorian era and technology with a bit of science fiction and fantasy mixed in, Oxnard Steampunk Fest, is a Halloween/Steampunk event themed “All Hallowstream” – it’s all that is whimsical with costumed characters, merchants and presenters.  Translation?  Think of airships, goggles, jet packs, corsets, top hats, parasols, combined with imagination and wee bit of whimsey.  The event takes place on Saturday, October 26 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday, October 27 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at historic Heritage Square in Downtown Oxnard.  A fundraiser for Oxnard Heritage Foundation and Friends of Heritage Square, the cost is $10 per person with children under 12 free.

Besides the fun and enticing events, visitors can also take advantage of Oxnard’s fall weather.  Sun-worshippers will find no reason to put the swimsuit away quite yet, as Oxnard experiences an Indian Summer in the fall with beautiful rays of sunshine still casting down along the sandy white beaches.  Summer fun extends into the fall with additional opportunities to go bike riding, sailing, surfing, jet skiing and so much more.
