Former U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis to Lead Ventura County Democratic Party Celebration on Sept. 18

VENTURA — Democratic activists in Ventura County will come together for their annual fundraising event on Sunday, September 18th at the Crowne Plaza Ventura Beach from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Hilda Solis, the first Hispanic woman to be appointed to a Cabinet level position, and current member of the Los Angeles Board of Supervisors will be the keynote speaker celebrating the convergence of labor, business and agriculture that have turned Ventura County “blue.”

VCDP Chair Shawn Terris recently announced that annual fundraising event will honor long-time county labor leaders, Hank and Leah Lacayo.

The dinner will also celebrate Senator Fran Pavley, who is widely acclaimed for spearheading much of the legislative progress made in addressing accelerating threats to our natural environment. The party will present its Inaugural Fran Pavley Environmental Action Award for Outstanding Environmentalist to Henry Stern, Candidate for State Senate.

Business leader and philanthropist Tom Steyer will also discuss his efforts to ensure every California family shares the benefits of economic opportunity, education, and a healthy climate.

The 2016 Kennedy Legacy Dinner Awardees also include Kennedy Courage Award to Carla Castilla, Candidate for County Supervisor; Chris Lanier Activist Award, West County to Matty Park, long-time Democratic activist; Chris Lanier Activist Award, East County to Sylvia & Cleo Navarro, long-time Democratic activists; Kennedy Vigor Award to Bryan Caforio, CD-25 Candidate for Congress; Kennedy Spirit Award for the Outstanding Organization that Supports Democrat Values to the Oxnard Federation of Teachers and School Employees; and Kennedy Idealism Award for the Young Democrat of the Year to Josh Donner, College Democrat Leader.
