California LULAC State Convention kicks off activities with Special Veterans Luncheon

LULACLOS ANGELES — The California State League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) announced April 19 that former Los Angeles Mayor, Antonio Villaraigosa, will be the keynote speaker at the LULAC Veterans Luncheon, Friday, April 29, 2016, to be held at The Garland Hotel, North Hollywood.

“We are honored to have our former Mayor at our LULAC Veterans Luncheon, which has become a signature kick-off event for our annual State LULAC Convention,” stated Dave Rodriguez, California State LULAC Director. “Antonio Villaraigosa has contributed tremendously to the Latino Community, in so many ways, and his support and respect for our Veterans is well known throughout our community.”

Prior to being elected Mayor of Los Angeles, he was a member of the California State Assembly (1994-2000), the Democratic leader of the Assembly (1996-1998), and Speaker of the California State Assembly (1994-2000), and served until elected Mayor of Los Angeles in 2005.

During Villaraigosa’s tenure as Mayor, he gained national attention for his hard work and dedication to the community, and was featured in Time’s story on the country’s 25 most influential Latinos. He was the third Mexican American to have served as Mayor of Los Angeles, and the first in over 130 years. Today, Antonio Villaraigosa continues to be actively engaged in education, civic engagement, water, immigration, transportation and economic development issues. He speaks throughout the state and nationally on these issues.

The California LULAC Veterans Luncheon will once again honor the men and women that have served our country, as California LULAC continues to recognize the service and contributions of all veterans.
