OXNARD — Former boxing world champion, Fernando Vargas, is returning to his hometown Wednesday, June 5 to tour the famed Colonia Youth Boxing Gym, and to urge the city of Oxnard to keep the gym open.
Vargas grew up in Oxnard and knows firsthand the importance of having vital programs for youth. He intends to share his story and persuade the city that continuing to invest in these city programs is more effective than the alternatives.
Investing in our youth’s education and recreational activities will yield a higher return and a brighter future for our youth. Programs like La Colonia Library and Boxing are clear examples of services offered that can help develop champions inside and ring,” stated Fernando Vargas.
