A viewing party for the Jan. 30 segment of the Food Network’s popular “Diner’s Drive-Ins and Dives” show, featuring the Kitchen in Oxnard, will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30 at 529 So. A St., Oxnard. Big screen TVs, a red carpet entrance, muscle cars and a Guy Fieri (host of “DDD”) look-a-like contest will all be part of the activities, the Oxnard Downtown Management District reported in a media release.
For a single $10 ticket, guests will be treated to tastes of downtown menus including a sampler plate of “Guy’s picks” prepared by Chef Cathie Moreno, owner of the kitchen. Rancho Ventavo, Giovinazzo and Four Brix will provide wine tastings and, for beer connoisseurs, Firestone, Surf Brewery and Enegren will be in the house. Everyone is invited and preparations have been made to open the adjacent paseo to accommodate the anticipated number of guests.
”We’re honored to be featured on the show, especially as one of the new kids on the block just over a year in business,” Chef Cathie stated in the release. “There are so many great restaurants in downtown, we’re excited for the attention it is creating for all of us. It feels like we’re part of an emerging foodie scene leading the revival of our historic city center.”
Show producers selected the kitchen to profile from hundreds of suggestions submitted by Ventura County foodies. The television appearance is the latest in a wave of good buzz generated by the downtown dining district. Other restaurants including Fresh & Fabulous, La Dolce Vita, BG’s Café, Casapueblo Tomas Café, 5th Street and Sugar Beets have been featured in the media for their varied menus.
The premiere party also coincides with the final day of Oxnard International Restaurant Week (Jan 23-30), during which participating eateries are offering special prix-fixe menus to delight diners.
