In honor of National Nurses Week from May 6th to May 12th, GranVida Senior Living and Memory Care is excited to highlight the contributions of Director of Resident Care Patricia Garcia
CARPINTERIA — GranVida Senior Living and Memory Care nurse Patricia Garcia has gone well above the call of duty since she’s been at GranVida. From the Thomas Fire which affected Ventura and Santa Barbara counties to the Montecito mudslides, the Director of Resident Care did not hesitate to work alongside GranVida as they opened their doors to evacuees. It was Garcia’s mission to keep everyone safe while still serving the senior community at GranVida and working at other assisted living communities in the area.
“My staff of Resident Assistants worked as warriors for the safety of the residents,” said Garcia. “During the fire, our staff was sent to multiple Assisted Living Communities who opened their doors for our residents. It took a lot of preparation and coordination but we pulled through.”
As the first senior living community in Carpinteria, Garcia has been with GranVida since the first day they opened their doors in 2017. Having more than 30 years of experience as a nurse, Garcia brings her talents from a wide variety of different nursing disciplines under one roof. She started working as a Medical Surgical Nurse in San Gabriel Valley and Home Health Nurse. She then decided to specialize in Geriatrics and became a Geriatric Care Manager for the last 16 years of her career.
Along with her exceptional medical background as a nurse, Garcia also grew up in Carpinteria. She enjoys having the opportunity to directly impact the town she grew up in and to share her love for Carptineria with her senior community residents she cares for daily.
“I come from a large family of past generations that have lived here in Carpinteria and I enjoy exchanging stories about Carpinteria with many of the residents who live here because we are familiar with all the changes and it is nice to reminisce” said Garcia.
Garcia says it’s her work at GranVida Senior Living and Memory Care with the senior community residents that brings her the most joy in her nursing career.
“Over the years, I have lived in the Los Angeles area and have had great opportunities in my career, but being the Director of Resident Care at GranVida beats them all,” said Garcia. “At GranVida, I am home.”
