Feb. 6 — OPAC’s “Insight In Sound” series merges storytelling and career advice from touring musicians

OXNARDOPAC and its honorary board member and Oxnard native, Jose Cano of Las Cafeteras, are teaming up to present a second installment of the “INSIGHT IN SOUND” series starting with a “Women in Music” panel discussion on Tuesday, February 6th at Heritage Square. The event is free and open to the public, but tickets are required and can be reserved through Eventbrite.

Panelists for the February 6th event include:

  • Lupita Infante: Singer-Songwriter, 2x GRAMMY nominated, 1x Latin GRAMMY-nominated recording artist. Granddaughter of Pedro Infante.

  • Mireya Ramos: Latin GRAMMY Winner, Multi Latin GRAMMY and GRAMMY nominated Vocalist, Musician, Composer, Producer, Arranger and founder of Flor de Toloache (all female mariachi group)

  • Angela Gonzalez: Professional Sound Engineer for international touring band Las Cafeteras, Engineer at Legendary Rehearsal Studio Mates, the Regent, The Echo

The series is designed to inspire, help and connect local musicians with seasoned individuals in the industry, but is open to the broader community. It’s a unique and intimate experience where attendees can see and hear respected musicians in such a unique setting. Part storytelling and part lessons learned, Insight In Sound is educational, funny, and ultimately an opportunity for participants to engage with one another.

Jose Cano, co-organizer and event moderator, reflects: “We do this series because we believe that providing relevant, useful information through dialogue with experienced professionals can help guide the many young talented musicians that call Oxnard home, through their own musical journeys. This is especially important since we live in a place where industry opportunities are extremely limited.”

There will be a pre-event mingle at the Pipiripau shop at 5:30pm and post event drinks at the 1901 Speakeasy. Both venues are located at the Heritage Square.

This event is made possible thanks to the generous support of the Downtown Oxnard Improvement Association, American Cleaners, and The Port of Hueneme.
