Local author Jon Christopher will visit the Ojai Library at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2017, to do a reading and book signing for his recent work Beowulf: The Bear’s Son. Christopher wrote this origin story based on the oldest existing poem in the English language. The saga recounts the adventures of a sixth-century Norse warrior who is raised by a she-bear and a shaman until fate returns him to the world of men to become the greatest warrior of all time. Christopher will be discussing his book and the original poem that compelled him—in his own words—”…to breathe new life into a character fifteen-hundred years old, while simultaneously paying tribute to the original poem and its anonymous author.”
Christopher graduated from San Jose State College in 1966 with a B.A. in Political Science and received his Juris Doctorate from the Southern California Institute of Law in 2001. He presently lives on the road with his two Boxers, Bay & Misty.
This event is free and open to the public. For additional information, contact Ron Solórzano, Regional Librarian, at (805) 218-9146.
