Feb. 29 — “A Home for Education” Symposium to be held at CSU Channel Islands

VENTURA COUNTY — Those interested in working to identify unique and innovative affordable housing solutions in Ventura County, are invited to provide input during Housing Trust Fund Ventura County’s Annual Meeting. During the meeting the nonprofit will present a 2023 year in review and itscurrent programs and services, along with “A Home for Education: Housing solutions on educational properties,” on Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Grand Salon at California State University Channel Islands. “A Home for Education,” is a collaborative symposium presented by Housing Trust Fund Ventura County, County of Ventura, CSU Channel Islands, Ventura County Office of Education, and Ventura County P-20 Council to bring together the education and affordable housing communities to discuss opportunities to develop affordable housing for educators on educational properties. ?Keynote presentations will be given by a representative from Best, Best, and Kreiger LLP and by Al Grazioli, Director of Real Estate and Business Development for the Los Angeles Unified School District. Mr. Grazioli is an expert in site selection, planning and budgeting, overseeing projects in Southern California and globally. The keynote presentations, together “Affordable Housing Development on School Lands,” will discuss land use, legal considerations, property management and financing.

?Following the keynote, a panel discussion will take place moderated by Linda Braunschweiger, CEO of Housing Trust Fund Ventura County and Housing Land Trust Ventura County. Panelists confirmed at this time include, Al Grazioli, Director of Real Estate and Business Development for the Los Angeles Unified School District, Ken Trigueiro, CEO and President of People’s Self-Help Housing Corporation, Scott Kolwitz, Senior Planner with the City of Thousand Oaks and ChelseeBente Russell, Management Analyst for the Community Development Division of County of Ventura Executive Office. The conversation will include how to unlock housing opportunities on educational properties, what is needed to construct affordable housing, and the legal landscape surrounding this topic. “We are excited to collaborate with these organizations as we all work towards affordable housing solutions,” said Linda Braunschweiger, CEO of Housing Trust Fund Ventura County, “Our educators are foundational to a strong community, it is essential that we provide them with affordable housing options.”

Following the panel, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about local case studies presented by Sabrena Rodriguez, Board Member for the Ventura Unified School District, Laurie Nichols, Associate Vice President for Administrative Services and Human Resources Officer at California State University Channel Islands and a case study shared by a representative from Ventura County Community College District. This symposium will provide valuable information and insight while gathering key decision makers from education, government and affordable housing development.
