OXNARD — Gold Coast Transit District in conjunction with the City of Ventura is hosting a public meeting on Wednesday, February 28th from 6-7pm to discuss the upcoming bus stop consolidation and balancing project in downtown Ventura, set to begin early Spring.
Through data, research, public input and working closely with Ventura city staff, several bus stops will be removed or consolidated along the Main St. corridor, allowing for more even stop spacing and faster service on Route 6, which has been a top priority for riders. GCTD’s Short Range Transit Plan, adopted in 2015, recommended speeding up service on Route 6 as a top priority of passengers.
“Bus stop balancing is a low cost and easy way to speed up transit service along more transit friendly walkable Downtown corridors, such as Main Street” said Vanessa Rauschenberger, GCTD Director or Planning and Marketing.
Several benefits of the project include:
- Faster and more consistent travel time for bus passengers
- More even and balanced spacing between stops
- Resources and amenities (benches, shelters, etc.) can be directed to higher demand stops.
