SAN LUIS OBISPO — The Righetti High School Marimba Band and Ballet Folklorico will be heading north to perform at the SLO Library on Saturday, Feb. 23.
The band will play popular rancheras and cumbias melodies and perform dances from Sinaloa, Jalisco, Huasteca Veracruzana and Coahuila, according to Director Ricardo A. Gabaldon. About 33 students will appear in the 1 p.m. show.
They will participate as part of the Cuesta Book of the Year program, and in anticipation of a March 5th visit from Ana Castillo, author of the 2019 Book of the Year “Black dove: mama, mi’jo, and me.”
“This is a great opportunity for us to promote the beauty and variety of Mexican and Latino culture,’’ Gabaldon added. “Students will also be exposed to the works of Chicana author and poet Ana Castillo.”
