‘Esteban’s Caravan: From Hope to an American Cage’ by local author Denis O’Leary now available

VENTURA COUNTY — Local author and educator Denis O’Leary has announced the publication of his new book — “Esteban’s Caravan: From Hope to an American Cage,” now available on Amazon.com.

Published by Floricanto Press, “Esteban’s Caravan is the compelling story of a ten-year-old boy with his family in their journey to find security in the United States,” according to a release on Amazon.com. “Seeking asylum in a nation of immigrants, Esteban travels from his damaged paradise of Guatemala hoping for a better life only to be separated from his loved ones. Twenty years later, Esteban returns to tell a child’s story of hope, tragedy and triumph to a Senatorial committee in Washington DC.

“The reflection rises above the dark policy of separating children from their parents who legally present themselves to the United States under the Trump administration’s zero tolerance immigration policy. Factual events are presented in Esteban’s Caravan as seen by the innocent children who went from a hope of peace to an American cage and beyond.

“Denis O’Leary is an emerging writer with deep social consciousness. He wrote Alba Walking in the Shadows, a real-life thriller based on an infanticide that took place in the agricultural fields of California and profoundly impacted the Mixteco community.

O’Leary is an elementary school teacher in Oxnard. His teaching career of 29 years has paralleled his advocacy for Latino students, their families and the Latino community. He also has taken leadership roles in organizations such as the California Association for Bilingual Education, the League of United Latin American Citizens, and the United Farm Workers. Today, Denis O’Leary has kept busy with academic functions and his creative writing projects. He currently has several manuscripts in process for publication.”
