Oxnard Police Dept. Sergeant Christopher Williams, born in Reno, Nev. and raised in Port Hueneme, earned his associate’s degree in criminal justice from Aptos Junior College and his bachelor’s degree in organizational management from the University of LaVerne. He joined the Watsonville Police Department in 1997, the Ventura Police Department in 2000 and the Oxnard Police Department in 2004.
During his time with the department he has served as president of the Oxnard Peace Officers’ Association; has sponsored and created a youth outreach program in cooperation with LULAC, Oxnard Housing and the NAACP; has volunteered in the annual Relay for Life, the annual turkey giveaway during Thanksgiving, the City of Oxnard’s annual Christmas with Santa and “Bread of Life” at All Saints Episcopal Church; has volunteered as an umpire for Northside Little League and been an assistant coach for the Youth 8 girls’ soccer team, and volunteered to help the California High School Mock Trial Competition at local high schools. He is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Oxnard and the Knights of Columbus.
According to one nomination letter, “Chris is a natural leader with consummate diplomacy when interacting with people. He listens to advice and welcomes guidance yet he maintains a very independent and creative mind of his own. He is aware of the benefits of diversity and willingly embraces the challenges it presents. He has a genuine interest in working with people and demonstrates this through all his community endeavors. Without a doubt, Chris is a role model for the youth of Oxnard. His robust leadership and genuine commitment to the diverse citizens of Oxnard have created enduring community partnerships which benefit everyone.”
