WESTLAKE VILLAGE — Southeast Ventura County YMCA branches are taking early registrations for their summer camps. Camp is from June 17 to August 16 through the Yarrow Family YMCA and from June 10 to August 8 through the Simi Valley Family YMCA.
Campers in TK to 5th grade can attend day camp full-time (four to five days a week) or part-time (two to three days a week) for the entire camp session or selected weeks.
Activities include sports, swimming (under the supervision of Red Cross-certified YMCA lifeguards), arts and crafts, dance, cooking and weekly themed activities based on the campers’ age group. Child to counselor ratio is 14 to one. “The smaller ratio creates a more personal experience for campers to learn and grow in a safe environment,” says Katie Oberman, Yarrow YMCA Senior Program Director, Child Care & Summer Camp.
The YMCA offers other camp opportunities. Campers in 4th through 6th grades can sign up for Adventure Camp. Adventure campers go on weekly field trips including trips to the beach, California Science Center, Griffith Observatory, Underwood Family Farms and Moorpark Teaching Zoo.
The Y’s Leaders in Training program is for students in grades 6th through 10th. The program gives campers an opportunity to build positive relationships, work with youth of all ages and assist with camp activities.
The Yarrow YMCA camp is at the Y site at Willow Elementary School (29026 Laro Dr., Agoura Hills). The Simi YMCA camp is at the Atherwood Elementary School Y site (2350 E. Greensward St., Simi Valley).
An in-person parent orientation will be held on Thursday, May 2 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Willow Elementary (for Yarrow Y campers) and Atherwood Elementary (for Simi Y campers) to answer parent questions and provide an overview of each camp.
Camp hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Extended care hours are 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at no additional charge.
