| “Music for Mushrooms” Documentary
Musician East Forest embarks on a mission pairing music with psychedelics to bring about transformative healing to a world in crisis.
Music for Mushrooms is a narrative documentary highlighting the personal journey of shamanistic musician and filmmaker East Forest (Krishna-Trevor Oswalt) – a collaborator of the late Ram Dass – whose bold experiments pair music with guided psychedelic experiences to create spaces of healing for a fractured world.
The film captures East Forest as he discovers a practice of guided ceremonial concerts that offer participants an immersive environment to confront their pain and fears, fostering hope, and moving them to re-engage with their own true north.
Having personally grappled with the profound sense of chaos and despair that permeates the modern world, Oswalt documents an exploration of the synergistic power of music paired with psychedelics.
Containing intimate emotional encounters with individuals whose lives are changed through experiences with music, spirituality, nature and psychedelics, Music for Mushrooms is a highly resonant ode to the transformative potential of art and introspection in a world aching for healing, enlightenment, and togetherness. |

|
|
| Enjoy this article from our partner Stephanie Karzon who was recently published on Psychedelics.com!
Functional mushrooms offer health benefits beyond basic nutrition. They contain bioactive compounds, such as polysaccharides, beta-glucans, triterpenoids, and antioxidants, contributing to their therapeutic properties. (1)
- Historical Significance: Mushrooms have been essential in health and culture for millennia, and they are used for culinary, medicinal, and spiritual purposes across various civilizations. Traditional Chinese Medicine have used functional mushrooms to enhance health and promote longevity. Functional mushrooms are also woven into Japanese culture, with Shiitake and Maitake mushrooms, for example, used both medicinally and culinarily. Indigenous peoples of Siberia are also known to rely on Chaga for its anti-inflammatory and immune boosting properties. Interestingly, the Agarikon mushroom was used by Native American tribes for fighting infection.
- Ancient Reverence: Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs depict mushrooms as “plants of immortality,” highlighting their revered status.
- Traditional Medicine: In traditional Chinese medicine and in Japanese culture, mushrooms like reishi and shiitake are celebrated for their healing properties. Indigenous Siberian and Native Americans are also some of the many people who value the medicinal properties of functional mushrooms.
- Modern Wellness: Functional mushrooms are praised in contemporary wellness for their potential to enhance immunity, cognitive function, and overall vitality.
- Therapeutic Compounds: Functional mushrooms contain bioactive compounds such as polysaccharides, beta-glucans, triterpenoids, and antioxidants, contributing to their therapeutic properties. (2, 3, 4, 5)
While this guide focuses on functional (health-boosting) mushrooms, it is important to note the growing interest in combining functional and psychedelic species such as in psychedelic mushroom capsules or chocolates that also contain other types of fungi for added benefit, underscoring their distinct advantages and uses. As we delve deeper into this world, we uncover historical reverence and contemporary relevance, highlighting their enduring significance in human health and cultural practices. |
