Ventura County Leadership Academy recognizes Mustang president and VCCCD trustee
THOUSAND OAKS — Mustang Marketing President Dianne McKay has been named Educational Leader of the Year by Ventura County Leadership Academy. McKay is currently serving in her third term as an elected trustee for the Ventura County Community College District (VCCCD).
McKay was recognized for her many accomplishments on behalf of local students. Since becoming a trustee, McKay was instrumental in navigating the district through the significant budget cuts of her first term and out of accreditation probation. Leading the board to become the first in the state to each receive Excellence in Trusteeship certification played a huge role in this success. McKay also helped lead a local team to promote and pass Measure I — an initiative that provided $197 million to improve 28 schools in Conejo Valley. Her earlier work provided much improved stadiums at the three CVUSD comprehensive high schools and initiated a nationally recognized homework policy change.
An influential nonprofit leader, McKay serves on the boards of the United Way of Ventura County, Safe Passage Youth Foundation, Ventura County Family Justice Center Foundation and more. She is also appointed to serve on the Advisory Committee on Education Services for the Community College League of California (League) and is a regular presenter and moderator at League conferences. Additionally, this past year, McKay has participated in multiple community education webinars and virtual forums to share marketing advice amidst the pandemic.
“I am so honored to receive this recognition,” McKay said. “I have always been passionate about education, and I’m thankful to have the opportunity to work alongside so many other incredible educational leaders to make a meaningful difference for students throughout our region. Improving education is rewarding in and of itself, and receiving this award is an added bonus because it signifies that our efforts are paying off.”
McKay will be honored at VCLA’s virtual Journey to Leadership Awards ceremony on April 29, 2021. To learn more about VCLA and the Journey to Leadership Awards, go to https://vcleadership.org.
