Día de los Muertos events are beginning this weekend in many locations in the 805 region.

Casa Dolores — Center for the Study of the Popular Arts of Mexico, will present an altar featuring El Catrin y La Catrina, created by the Linares family, from Oct. 31 through Nov. 14 at 1023 Bath Street (between Carrillo & Figueroa). The Los Angeles-based non-profit organization, ART DIVISION, is transforming the Santa Barbara Museum of Art‘s Family Resource Center into El Taller, a workshop inspired by the prints of José Guadalupe Posada and the Mexican tradition of Día de los Muertos.

Oct. 17 — Casa DoloresART DIVISION is founded by artist Dan McCleary in 2010 is dedicated to training and supporting underserved youth who are committed to studying the visual arts, museum officials reported in a media release.

The public can stop by through Oct. 16 during museum hours to see ART DIVISION transform the space into El Taller.

They can then work with SBMA Teaching Artists to create postcard prints and messages to those you wish to remember?to display in the community studio or to take home from 11 a.m. through 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17 and 24 and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays Oct. 18 through 25. The museum will hold its annual Free Family Day Día de los Muertos from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25.

Meanwhile, workshops are continuing at the Inlakech Cultural Arts Center, 250 E. 5th St., Oxnard. They include:

“Muerto Necklace, Painting and Decorating” on Oct. 17 and “Altar / Ofrenda Design and Construction,” with a special lecture by indigenous elder-maestra Luzma Espinoza on the “Spiritual meaning of Día de los Muertos” on Oct. 24.

All the workshops lead up to the 2015 Día de Los Muertos Celebration from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7 at Conejo Mountain Funeral Home, Memorial Park and Crematory in Camarillo.
