SIMI VALLEY — The Simi Valley Family YMCA will host its annual Breakfast With Santa on Saturday, December 7, featuring a fresh-cooked breakfast, hot cocoa, photos with Santa, a snow play area and holiday crafts. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Families can then select a newly-arrived Christmas tree at the YMCA’s Christmas tree lot operated by the Simi Valley Y’s Men’s Club.
The breakfast costs $20 for YMCA members and $25 for nonmembers, with children 3 and under admitted free. Advance registration is required at www.sevymca.org/breakfast-santa.
The YMCA’s tree lot will have about 750 Noble, Douglas and Nordmann fir trees from 3′ to 9′ tall. The trees are grown in Oregon, harvested, and then packed in ice for their trip south to the Y. Once they arrive, they are unloaded by LDS Church volunteers, given a fresh cut at the base, put in water and set out for display. Y’s Men’s Club members and volunteers staff the tree lot. Trees go on sale December 6.
“Our trees are cut and shipped later in the year than most Christmas trees,” says Curtis Brown, Y’s Men’s Club present who has been managing the tree lot for over 20 years. “That means they’ll remain fresh longer through the holidays. They will be the freshest Christmas trees in Simi Valley.”
Proceeds from tree sales go to organizations in the community, underserved families and YMCA programs. Christmas tree lot hours are 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
The tree lot and Breakfast with Santa are at the Simi Valley Family YMCA (3200 Cochran St., corner of Galena Ave. and Cochran St.). For breakfast sponsorship opportunities, contact Dani Hutchison at dhutchison@sevymca.org
