SACRAMENTO — When the Assemblymember last had the first version of AB1081 bill before him for a vote, which was May 2011, there were a number of questions concerning the legislation that could not be answered. Due to that fact, Assemblymember Williams abstained, the office of Assemblymember Das Williams (D-35), reported Thursday in a media release.
The latest version of AB1081 has substantial and significant changes from the first version considered a year ago. As he does with the hundreds of bills before him each year, Assemblymember Williams is carefully reviewing the legislation, listening to opinions from constituents, and reviewing data.
Assemblymember Williams has always been a strong supporter of immigrant rights having voted for the DREAM Act and SB126 that gave protections to agricultural workers as well as supporting limited check points as a Santa Barbara City Councilmember. Assemblymember Williams wants to be able to make informed decisions by doing research. As always this office is happy to meet with constituents on this important issue and welcomes a dialogue. Community members engaged in the process is something that the Assemblymember wants to see, as we share the same objective to have a safe community for everyone.
