CAMARILLO — CSU Channel Islands’ (CSUCI) Communication & Marketing office has taken home gold and silver from both a regional and national organization.
The national Collegiate Advertising Awards presented CSUCI with two first place gold awards and two second place silver awards. The gold awards were in the categories of Advertising Specialty and Special Video Production for schools with 5,001 to 10,000 students.
The pearl-themed Art Deco lapel pins, card backing and printed program for President Erika D. Beck’s May 5, 2017 Investiture ceremony won the Advertising Specialty gold. They were created by staff graphic designer Jennifer Kubel.
“It’s an honor to be recognized by our peers from other universities across the country,” Kubel said.
The first-place video production award was for a piece shot and edited by staff photographer/videographer Kevin Mapp when he accompanied student researchers from the Environmental Science & Resource Management (ESRM) program on their annual trip to New Orleans. ESRM Professor Sean Anderson, Ph.D., has been leading the group to Southern Louisiana to learn and provide environmental restoration help ever since Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005.
“I was really surprised and excited when I found out the video won a gold award,” Mapp said. “I really wanted to give people a sense of what the students experienced during the service learning trip, so it made me happy to see that the video connected with the judges of the competition.”
CSUCI also won silver from Collegiate Advertising Awards for design of the Investiture invitation and the 2017 Student Viewbook, both also created by Kubel.
A second-place silver regional award for the design of the Investiture invitation was from District VII of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). CASE District VII, covers the western region of the United States (Arizona, California, Guam, Hawaii, Nevada, Northern Mariana Islands, and Utah).
CASE District VII received more than 500 entries in 13 categories and 66 sub-categories. The awards were presented this month at a CASE District VII Conference held in San Francisco.
“It takes a village, and we have a talented and cohesive village in the Communication & Marketing team,” said Senior Executive Director of University Communication Nancy Covarrubias Gill. “I’m proud of Jen and Kevin, but also the team, who pulled together to produce this creative and compelling work.”
