County of Ventura District 2 Supervisor Jeff Gorell — Community Update – Crime Prevention Tips

COMMUNITY UPDATE

Dear Residents,

In response to recent burglaries in the Santa Rosa Valley area, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office partnered with Rosemary Allison, the Santa Rosa Valley CERT and Neighborhood Watch Coordinator, to provide residents with key safety information and practical tips to help secure their homes and property.

Representatives from the Moorpark Sheriff’s Station shared crime prevention strategies and encouraged residents to remain vigilant. These tips are an important reminder for all community members in communities throughout the area.

Below are 10 Ways to Protect Your Home from Burglary:

  1. Lock all doors and windows whenever you are away from home.
  2. Use timers for lights to ensure they turn on before dark.
  3. Alarm the second story of your home.
  4. Install wired security cameras covering all angles of your home.
  5. Hide DVRs for wired cameras to prevent theft during break-ins.
  6. Keep exterior lights on around your home’s perimeter.
  7. Leave televisions or radios on to make your home appear occupied.
  8. Bolt down safes to the floor or wall.
  9. If your home backs up to open space, use fencing or hedges to limit visibility and access.
  10. Request a FREE home security assessment from the Moorpark Police Department.

For non-emergency assistance, contact the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office at (805) 654-9511. Always dial 911 in case of emergency.

Together, as a community, we can stay proactive, informed, and safe.
