OXNARD — The Association of Mexican American Educators (AMAE), Oxnard Chapter, held it’s 1st Annual Ventura County Student Speech Competition on Oct. 11th at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center. Students in grades 6-8 from Ventura County School Districts were invited to participate. Due to the fires in some areas, some competition students were unable to attend. Students presented their theme “Honoring Latino/Indigenous Heroes” by reflecting on individuals who have made an important impact in service to their community and humanity.
Congratulations to all the students who made it to the final county level competition.
Sixth grade winners:
1st place – Alyssa Medrano, from Rio Real Elementary, Rio School District.
2nd place – Melina Garcia Orozco, from Kamala Elementary, Oxnard School District.
3rd Pace – Erick Canales, from Briggs Elementary, Briggs School District.
Seventh grade winners:
1st place – Janeth Melchor, from Chavez Elementary, Oxnard School District
2nd place – Ailani Mora, from Isabell School, Santa Paula Unified School District
3rd place – Salvador Plascencia III, Rio Real Elementary, Rio School District.
Eighth grade winners:
1st place – Ruby Fernandez, Rio Real Elementary, Rio School District
2nd place – Carlos Valencia, Las Colinas Middle School, Pleasant Valley School District
3rd place – Chase Vanover, Mupu Elementary, Mupu School District.
