May 20, 2021 SANTA BARBARA, CA – The Community Environmental Council (CEC) is pleased to announce the addition of several new staff members whose diverse backgrounds are expanding our organization’s ability to meet the demands of the climate crisis. This builds on a trend of growth for CEC that continued in 2020 and through this year, despite the pandemic.
New CEC Team Members
Danny Ettelson: Energy Associate
Danny brings private sector experience developing electric vehicle charging software as well as a research background in the fields of energy efficiency and electric vehicles. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from the University of Denver and a master’s degree specializing in Energy and Climate from the Bren School at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Melissa Gomez Fontaine: Development Associate
Melissa has extensive nonprofit experience, and has previously served as the Marketing Manager at the Center for Urban Agriculture at Fairview Gardens, co-founder of Goodland Kitchen in Goleta, Food Literacy Manager at the Orfalea Foundation, and Director of Community Impact with the Foodbank of Santa Barbara County. Melissa earned her bachelor’s degree in Natural Sciences from New College of Florida, and her master’s degree of Environmental Science and Management from the Bren School at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Gad Girling: Communications Production Coordinator
Gad has a background in design, bringing relevant research out of academia and into the public sphere through coupled science/art endeavors. Gad received a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science with a minor in Physics from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Joseph Hernandez: Administrative & Operations Director
Joseph has deep experience in operations, and previously worked as Operations Manager with Teach For America – Los Angeles. For 11 years prior he was Program Coordinator at the USC Marshall School of Business. Joseph earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California.
Sarah Miller: Communications Associate
Sarah has a unique blend of environmental and marketing expertise. She lived abroad for several years, including in Indonesia, where she owned a dive shop. Her desire to help the ocean and her passion for marketing led to creating the YouTube channel, Azul Unlimited. Sarah earned her bachelor’s degree in Viticulture & Enology and a minor in Spanish from the University of California, Davis and spent eight years working in the wine industry.
