Join the Community Environmental Council (CEC), Santa Barbara High School’s Environmental Advocacy Club, and the Sierra Club Santa Barbara-Ventura Chapter for a free, interactive Youth Climate Workshop designed to turn passion into tangible impact.
You’ll hear from Maureen Ellenberger, Sierra Club Santa Barbara-Ventura Chapter Chair and CEC Climate Stewards alumna, who will share the latest updates on the proposed oil and gas production phase-out in Santa Barbara County. Students will get to ask questions, gain insight into local decision-making, and learn how to advocate for a just transition away from fossil fuels. Then, we’ll roll up our sleeves for anengaging Climate Solutions Mapping activity where participants will collaborate with peers, identify local opportunities for impact, and strengthen climate leadership skills in a supportive, action-oriented environment.
Whether you’re interested in public policy, environmental science, community organizing, or simply protecting the place you call home — this hands-on experience can help you stand out as you pursue future opportunities in the environmental field and become an emerging leader in the climate movement. Become a Resilience Hub and Help Your Community Prepare for Disasters
The California Central Coast faces growing challenges from extreme heat, wildfire smoke, flooding, and poor air quality. Community resilience hubs — trusted local spaces like schools, libraries, community centers, and churches — can provide aid and resources before, during, and after these events. CEC can help activate your site to:
-
Provide clean air during smoke events
-
Act as cooling locations during extreme heat
-
Distribute food
-
Serve as an emergency shelter or hub for emergency services
-
Facilitate disaster preparedness training and neighborhood organizing
-
Host off-grid charging during power outages or shutdowns
