OCTOBER  |   2024
Dear Friends of the School of Management,

We’re back after a well-deserved summer break
for our undergraduate faculty members, and a successful start into the new academic year.
At the beginning of the semester, the School of Management welcomed 164 new undergraduate freshmen and transfer students and 91 new graduate students who enthusiastically look forward to their educational journey. We have a
lot in store for them and, of course, our wider community – including YOU! On October 2nd, we will kick off this year’s ForwardTogether webinar series with School of Management Executive MBA alumnus John Maier, CEO of Bose Professional, followed by our 9th Annual Executive Talent Management Forum on October 10 and Startup Weekend Conejo Valley from October 11-13 at our own startup community space Hub101. I hope to see many of at one of these events where you can explore interesting topics, and meet and mingle with our faculty, staff, and students!

As always, I look forward to seeing you (again) and to hear from you at apfelthaler@callutheran.edu.

With very best regards,
Gerhard Apfelthaler, PhD

CERF Releases First-Ever Latina GDP Report
Our Center for Economic Research and Forecasting has made another significant impact. Continuing their groundbreaking research on the Latino GDP, faculty members Matthew Fienup, Dan Hamilton, and UCLA collaborator David Hayes-Bautista released the first-ever LATINA GDP Report. The numbers are remarkable and captivating: The 2021 U.S. Latina GDP is $1.3 trillion, up from $661 billion in 2010. The total economic output of Hispanic females in 2021 is larger than the entire economy of Florida. From 2010 to 2021, the economic contribution of Latinas grew by 51.1 percent. Over this period, the real GDP of Hispanic females grew 1.2 times the rate of Hispanic males’ GDP and an astonishing 2.7 times the rate of non-Hispanic GDP. From 2010 to 2021, the real incomes of Hispanic females grew by 46.0 percent, compared to only 18.5 percent for non-Hispanic females. Additionally, from 2010 to 2021, the number of Hispanic females with a bachelor’s degree grew by 103.0 percent! It’s no surprise that over 300 media outlets reported on CERF’s report, including the Washington Post, Financial Times, Fast Company, Yahoo Finance, NASDAQ, AP News, Seattle Times, MSN, and many others. Matthew Fienup was also interviewed on the report by CNBC and KNX News.
